Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU Review: Performance, Thermals & Power Analysis

HD Game tests

Using a potent GPU at low resolutions, I ensure there is no bottleneck in this section so I can easily check the CPU performance differences—all games run at HD resolution and the highest possible setting without RTX.

In Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Cyberpunk, it doesn’t stand out from the crowd. It does pretty well in The Last of Us, getting close to the 7800X3D. In Rachet & Clank, it falls back but still is way faster than the 13900K; in Resident Evil 4, strangely enough, the 13900K achieves the best performance, and the 285K is last, and finally, in Starfield, its performance is about the same as the 13900K. In general, I cannot say that I am impressed by its gaming performance, but I haven’t mentioned its power consumption yet, which is also a crucial factor.

  1. Given that you are mostly known for the PSU Wizzard, you should also include the whole system power draw (idle most importantly) with or without dedicated GPU. This is important when choosing PSU based on the given power draw (choosing between PSUs with low load performer or normal load performer).

    1. Whole system power consumption is affected by the PSU and the rest parts I use. Most of you won’t use the same so I believe that providing exclusive CPU power figures is the best.
