Cooling fans are essential to any system; RGB fans are a good choice if you want to improve its looks. Unfortunately, most branded fans are not affordable. Imagine paying 100 dollars for a decent chassis and almost as much for 4-5 good 120mm fans! The total cost will easily exceed the chassis’ cost if you need an RGB and PWM controller.
The NZXT F120RGB Core costs 20 dollars, which is not affordable, but the RGB lighting adds to the cost. If you plan to buy 3-4 of these fans for your chassis, your mainboard doesn’t have as many fan headers, and you also want to be able to control RGB lighting, NZXT offers an RGB & Fan controller for 35 dollars. PWM/RGB controllers offer versatility and help you with the cable mess, especially if the fans don’t support daisy chain. Ideally, a fan should support daisy chain and be able to pass both power and data signals (for RGB) through a single cable, but such fans use propriety technology which doesn’t come cheap (e.g., Corsair iCue LINK).
