ADATA Expands Rugged Storage Line with New Military-Grade External SSDs

ADATA, a leading manufacturer of memory and storage solutions, has announced the launch of two new external solid-state drives (SSDs) designed for durability and high-speed data transfer. The new SD820 and SC735 models are built to meet military-grade ruggedness standards, targeting users who require reliable storage in demanding conditions.

The release addresses growing consumer demand for resilient, high-capacity mobile storage, driven by larger file sizes from high-resolution video, games, and mobile work solutions.

SD820: High-Speed Performance for Outdoor Creators

The flagship SD820 is built for users who need both speed and extreme durability. It utilizes a USB 3.2 Gen2 x2 interface, enabling read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s. The drive is available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities.

Its key feature is a ruggedized design that has passed MIL-STD-810G 516.6 certification for drop resistance, allowing it to withstand falls from up to 1.22 meters. It also carries an IP68 rating, making it both dustproof and waterproof when submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 60 minutes. Despite this protection, the drive maintains a lightweight form factor at 26.5 grams.

SC735: Ultra-Portable and Cable-Free Convenience

Aiming for maximum portability, the SC735 is an ultra-lightweight drive weighing 13.6 grams. Its most distinctive feature is a retractable USB Type-C connector, which removes the need for a separate cable and allows for direct connection to compatible devices.

It offers read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1000 MB/s via a USB 3.2 Gen2 interface and is offered in 1TB and 2TB capacities. It is also MIL-STD-810G 516.6 certified for drop resistance. The drive is marketed for its cross-platform compatibility, supporting iPhones (15 and later), Android devices, macOS, Windows, and gaming consoles.

Availability and Pricing

The drives are presented as solutions for photographers, travelers, and content creators who need to edit, back up, or transfer large files away from a desk. ADATA has not yet announced official pricing or a specific release date for the new SD820 and SC735 drives.
