Phanteks M25 Gen2 120mm Fan Review – Budget Airflow

The Phanteks M25 Gen2 120mm utilizes a daisy-chain unified fan frame that easily interlocks with the next fan to link multiple fans together into one. According to its maker, this fan focuses on airflow performance which makes it suitable for chassis use mostly, although Phanteks says that it is designed specifically for radiators and heatsinks. Phanteks has one of the best 120mm fans in its portfolio, the T30-120, which dominates the respective category. Everything is almost perfect with the T30-120, except for two things: it is expensive, and it has an increased thickness of 30mm, which can cause compatibility issues in some usage scenarios. The M25G2-120 is notably more affordable, and it also comes in a D-RGB version. To give you an idea of its price, the triple pack of M25G2-120 ARGB fans costs $37, the triple pack of the plain M25-120 Gen2 is even more affordable at $20, while the triple pack of T30-120 fans costs $115. As you can see, the price difference is vast.

Phanteks advertises the M25G2-120 as suitable for use in radiators and heat sinks, but a quick look at its specs reveals that its static pressure isn’t particularly impressive; therefore, there are better choices for cooling solutions where fans with high static pressure are more suitable. On the contrary, the alleged airflow is high enough, making this fan an appropriate choice for use in a chassis to push air either inside or outside the case.

The M25G2-120 achieves a Platinum airflow and a Silver static pressure rating on the Cybenetics Phi scale.
