We are in the phase where we change our Intel cooling test system, replacing the aged but power-hungry 13900K with a shiny new Ultra 9 285K. Since I use an ASRock Taichi Z890 mainboard with beefy VRMs, I thought to try the ASRock Extreme Profile instead of the Intel Default one, and I was shocked when I noticed the massive power consumption of the Intel chip! At the time, I was testing a Noctua NH-D15 G2 cooler, so I didn’t proceed with the test for more than 30 seconds.
I don’t have a GPU installed, focusing only on the CPU’s power consumption and temperatures. The Prime95 power virus was running at the same time. With the Intel Default Mode Profile, the real CPU power consumption is a bit above 300W at the same conditions, while the reported one stays close to 253W (since PL1/PL2 are set at 253W).
