I admit I knew nothing about NZXT’s subscription PC program because it is only active in the USA. It seems the best things happen in this market (sarcasm). But the recent video by Gamers Nexus made me realize that such insane programs promise anything to users, and there are still people who will fall into the trap!
To summarize, NZXT rents PC systems to interested users, promising lifetime warranty and upgrades after 2 years. First of all, users of this program never own a PC, despite the huge fees. Moreover, they can get used hardware (like new) instead of new hardware. NZXT stretches it to the maximum, renting even the mousepad!
So let’s see about the programs that NZXT offers:
Player: One Flex
I started with the Player: One Flex, which is the cheapest to rent.
NZXT sells the Player: One – White for $830 (BF sale: $750) without defying the exact model numbers of the parts they will use for the following:
- GPU
- RAM
- Storage
- Mainboard
- Power Supply
For example, branded 650W Gold PSUs can exceed 120 dollars, but similar-spec PSUs (with way lower performance and quality) can cost as low as 50$. NZXT has a video of a “sample” Player: One system shows an MSI GPU and a high-end mainboard with WiFi support, but to avoid any issues, they don’t mention anything about the provided hardware.
But the funny part is not when you buy the system from NZXT, but when you decide to rent it. Let’s take a look at the following table:
NZXT Player: One Renting Cost Over Time
Duration (Months) | Cost ($) |
1 | 59 |
5 | 295 |
10 | 590 |
12 | 708 |
14 | 826 |
So, if you keep this system for more than 14 months, you could also buy it directly, but this is not the case with NZXT’s rental program, where in 14 months, you will have almost paid the system’s entire value without owning it! I thought that car leasing wasn’t a good idea, but PC leasing is even worse!
Player: Three Prime Flex
Let’s now see the top-of-the-line rent system, which costs $259 monthly!
NZXT sells the Player: Three Prime – White for $3400 (BF sale: $3000) without defying the exact model numbers of the parts they will use for the following:
- GPU
- RAM
- Storage
- Mainboard
- Power Supply
The MSI A1000G PCIE5 I used in my system is among the most affordable branded Gold 1000W PSUs, costing $130. The NZXT C1000 (white, 2024) costs $160, and the Asus ROG Strix Aura Edition (white) costs $297! So, not stating precisely the parts you will get sounds fishy!
Let’s look at how it will set you back if you rent this system!
NZXT Player: One Renting Cost Over Time
Duration (Months) | Cost ($) |
1 | 259 |
5 | 1295 |
10 | 2590 |
12 | 3108 |
14 | 3626 |
You could have bought the system for just ten months of rent! Is it worth renting? Hell no! You will have paid almost 2600 dollars in ten months and own nothing! It looks crazy to me that some people would fall for this scheme! And the craziest part is that NZXT has some testimonials on its page of happy customers!
Getting a Bank Loan vs. NZXT’s Rent Program
If you decide to go to a bank and get a loan with 6.5% interest per year, you must pay this monthly amount ($259), and the PC will be yours! In total, you will pay around $107 in interest.
If you rent it from NZXT, you will pay $3108 annually, and the PC won’t be yours! Crazy, eh?
Niente di nuovo sinceramente, e c’è di peggio .
