Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 ARGB 850W PSU Review

Box & Bundle

The box is similar to the one for the 750W unit. At the face of the box is a photo of the PSU, with its fan lit. The central selling point of this PSU, besides ATX v3.0 compatibility, seems to be the RGB lighting. The protection inside the box is good, and the cable pouch is always a nice touch. The bundle also includes several zip ties, besides the paperwork and the set of fixing bolts.

Product Photos

The fan grille limits airflow and the same goes for the exhaust grille. At the PSU’s side, besides the smart zero fan switch, there are also two push buttons for manually setting up the RGB lighting, should you don’t want to connect it to your mainboard or the latter doesn’t support ARGB control.

Enough cables and connectors are provided, but the EPS cable holding two connectors can create problems if you load both fully. EPS connectors should only be installed on dedicated cables, not piggy-tail ones.

Besides the four 6+2 pin PCIe connectors, there is also a 450W 12VHPWR for supporting high-end NVIDIA graphics cards or any upcoming AMD ones once the latter starts using 12VHPWR sockets. Lastly, there is an ARGB sync cable to sync the PSU’s lighting with the rest RGB-lit parts of your system, should you want to.
