Seasonic Prime PX-1600 ATX v3.0 PSU Review

Box & Bundle

As in the TX-1600, the box is enormous since it contains one of the largest PSUs in today’s market. The bundle includes cable combs, an ATX jump-start plug, a case badge, zip ties, Velcro straps, and fixing bolts.

The silver parts of the fan grille, extending to the sides, provide a luxury note. The vents on the sides remind me of a sports car, assisting in the nice looks. This is a large PSU, but its design makes it look appealing.

Cables

Modular Cables
Description Cable Count Connector Count (Total) Gauge In Cable Capacitors
ATX connector 20+4 pin (610mm) 1 1 16-18AWG No
4+4 pin EPS12V (700mm) 3 3 16AWG No
6+2 pin PCIe (750mm) 6 6 16AWG No
12+4 pin PCIe (750mm) (600W) 2 2 16-28AWG No
SATA (510mm+155mm+155mm+155mm) 4 16 18AWG No
SATA (410mm+155mm) 1 2 18AWG No
4-pin Molex (460mm+130mm+130mm) 1 3 18AWG No
AC Power Cord (1340mm) – C19 coupler 1 1 16AWG

Three EPS, six 6+2 PCIe, and two 12VHPWR connectors on dedicated cables are enough to deliver more than this unit’s capacity. Every possible usage scenario is covered with the vast amount of provided cables and connectors, with the only exception being the three 4-pin Molex. An additional connector of this type would be ideal.

The pair of 12VHPWR connectors, set at 600W, is overkill, even for a 1600W PSU, but Seasonic had a different opinion.

  1. Very extensive review. I have the old Prime PX-1300 that has the 12v sense defect. I disconnected the wire and the PSU hasn’t turned off abnormally since when overclocking my 7900 XTX. My next PSU will definitely be ATX 3.0-compatible but I don’t think I need a new one, especially considering the limited choices now. I hope Corsair will update the AX1600i soon but I bet it will cost an arm and a leg.

  2. Hi crmaris, thanks for your reviews on the TX & this PX, awesome job.

Are these cons significant enough to deter someone like yourself from buying one?
Have you tested/reviewed a better high end alternative or more simply, which PSU in the 1300W+ category would be your go to right now?

    1. Hi! So far there isn’t any better choice in the ATX v3.0 and >1500W capacity. I haven’t tested something better. The Corsair AX1600i has higher overall performance but it isn’t ATX v3.0 compatible

  3. Ok, thanks for replying crmaris. I’ve had good experience with Seasonic so far & their Prime range so I’ll stick with them, thanks again for your time & in-depth reviews.
