Epilogue
It seems that the 750W max output is the sweet spot for the Seasonic Vertex Platinum platform, which the Montech PLA models use. The PLA 750 registered a competitive overall performance, with only a few units achieving a significantly better difference (Corsair RM750x, ASRock Phantom Gaming PG-750G, and Asus Rog Strix 750G Aura Gaming). The lack of a 12V voltage step at light loads boosted the load regulation on this rail; ripple suppression is good, and the transient response of the 12V at high loads is also very good. The platform is efficient overall, and the same applies to the 5VSB rail. I would like to see a better-performing APFC converter, lower inrush currents at 230V, and lower vampire power at the same input. Lastly, the PSU’s fan profile is highly relaxed because of the efficient platform, so the average noise output is below 20 dBA so this is a super-quiet unit ideal for silent operating systems.
Seasonic should tune some of the unit’s protection features better to make them more effective. As I mentioned in all of my recent reviews, it is high time for all manufacturers and brands to add fan-failure protection to their designs, since this is essential to any PSU. This protection will save the day if anything happens to the fan and won’t allow the PSU to get immense stress by operating at high temperatures.
