Lian Li EG1200G ATX v3.1 PSU Review

Box & Bundle

Typically, the box has a photo of the PSU on its face. Inside, the offered protection is adequate.

This is a weird-looking PSU because of the extended modular panel. This can be convenient for some users, though. I like that the top fan cover can be removed easily since it is magnetic. We find an AC receptacle and the power switch on the PSU’s front side. On the opposite side, there are 13x sockets, including a 12V-2×6 one. Although there is a single native 12V-2×6 socket, Lian Li included a pair of these cables, with the second one ending in 2x 8pin connectors.

This is the removable USB/fan hub. I guess they made it removable to make the installation process easier.

This unit comes with many cables, including two EPS, four legacy cables, and two high-power PCIe cables. There are also many peripheral cables, with the distance between most of them being long enough at 150mm. All cables are pretty long, especially the EPS ones, so you won’t have any compatibility issues even with extra-large chassis.

According to Lian Li, the PSU’s high power cables use thicker and stronger terminals with lower contact resistance. In the 12+4 pin connector, the terminals are soldered for better contact and to avoid dramatic situations. Another interesting feature is the dual-color shell of the 12V-2×6 connector, which provides a visual indication of full insertion, when the blue parts disappears.

  1. Just opted for this unit in preference to the 1200w Shift, largely due to the better cable quality and slightly better performance metrics. The shift uses Gen 5 cable connections. No mention of cable connections is mentioned in any review I’ve seen can I assume that these are gen 4 cables.

    1. Please note that Gen 4/5 cables refer to Corsair units. Unless you check, you should never mix cables between different brand PSUs, even between PSU models.

  2. Do we still need to concern about capacitor these days? Especially the japanese one? I read that Nippon-ChemiCon are now produced with Chinese Manufacture like ChengX that now make Rubycon and Nippon-ChemiCon. Does that mean they all now have the same quality?
