The Cooler Master V850i is a high-performance unit, using an interesting platform by an OEM which I had quite some time to meet, Chicony Power. This OEM has a strong name in the PSU business and I am happy to see Cooler Master using it.
The Cooler Master V850i is included in my best ATX v3.0 & PCIe 5.0 PSU picks article.
Cooler Master has recently cooperated with several OEMs, including Gospower, Lite-On, and Chicony Power, one of the strong names in the PSU OEM business. The following image provides the essential details about Chicony Power.
The V850i is advertised as a semi-digital power supply, so it will be interesting to check on its platform. Moreover, it is ATX v3.0 and PCIe 5.0 ready, meaning that it can withstand power excursions up to 200% of its maximum power, or 1700W. It is supported by a 450W 12VHPWR cable, which will soon be replaced by 12V-2×6. Compared to most 850W units with similar specs, its price is stiff at $185, with the majority of PSUs in this category going from $ 100$ to $ 165$. The semi-digital platform increased the cost, and in the following pages, we will check if it also provides increased performance to justify the higher asking price.
