Meta’s smart specs are no longer just stylish—they’re now more thoughtful, more helpful, and officially your new favorite travel buddy.
Meta has expanded its AI-powered assistant to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in seven more European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. That means users in these regions can now chat with Meta AI using simple voice commands to ask questions, get translations, and even identify landmarks.
Live Translation Goes Global
Perhaps the most exciting new feature is Live Translation, which is now rolling out to every country where the glasses are sold. Whether strolling through the streets of Paris or catching a train in Rome, the glasses can now translate between English, French, Italian, and Spanish in real time—no need to whip out your phone.
Even better? You don’t need a Wi-Fi connection. Download your preferred language pack beforehand, and you’ll be ready to travel like a local.
Your Glasses Can Now Be Your Tour Guide
Thanks to the AI camera feature rolling out in Europe, your glasses can now recognize famous landmarks. Just say, “Hey Meta, what can you tell me about this?” The glasses will use their camera to identify what you see and give you the lowdown.
This visual query feature was previously exclusive to the US and UK but now reaches a broader audience. You can finally ditch the bulky travel guide—and maybe even the tour guide.
Live AI, Visual Search & Instagram DMs
In the US and Canada, users also get access to Live AI, a conversational feature that lets you ask questions naturally, even interrupting Meta mid-sentence without needing to say “Hey Meta” every time. EU users will get the slightly lighter version, Visual Search, next week. It still lets you ask about your surroundings, not in a free-flowing conversational style.
Meta is also expanding its Instagram support for glasses. Soon, you can send DMs and photos and even take hands—free video calls. Combine that with the existing backing for WhatsApp, Messenger, and music streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music, and your Ray-Bans will start to sound like a wearable smartphone.
New Styles for the Second Gen
While we didn’t get new hardware this time around, Meta is rolling out new frame options for the second-gen glasses. The Skyler line introduces styles like Shiny Chalky Gray with Transitions Sapphire lenses and the classic Shiny Black with G15 Green or Clear lenses.
A New Kind of Travel Essential
From snapping a photo to learn more about Pompeii to getting translations on the fly in a busy market, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are quickly becoming an essential travel tool. With real-time translation playing through your glasses while the other person reads your words on the Meta View app, conversations feel less like tech demos and more like real, human connections.
Next time you pack your bags, leave the phrasebook and the selfie stick behind—your sunglasses just became your translator, tour guide, and travel assistant.
